Mr. Newey, today released the Traffic, Parking and Transportation Policy for the Community Voices team in Townsville.
“When elected, Community Voices team would undertake a full review of the Council road, traffic and transportation network in Townsville”, Mr. Newey said today”
The emphasis would be on working to improve the efficiency of the road network system and the use-ability of the current and future public transportation systems, including the integration of light rail for the northern suburbs.
Peter Newey says – “For too long we have seen the slow degradation in the point to point travel time throughout the Townsville regional road network.”. The expansion of the outlying suburbs have placed additional pressure on the existing road network.
Some people would argue that
increased traffic volumes are to blame in reducing travel times, even
though the road network has had millions of dollars invest in it, the
travel times have increased. This highlights an ever increasing amount
of valuable energy resource (e.g. Petrol and Diesel) being used and
the increasing the costs to the average Townsville family.
Mr. Newey said “This also affects public transport systems, increasing delays and timetable schedules being inaccurate”. Community Voices current investigations over the last few months has also shown a considerable rundown public transport infrastructure including poorly maintained bus stop facilities, and little public advertised scheduling of services at some stops.” ….“This provides a poor presentation of Townsville to visitors and Tourists alike” Mr. Newey said.
While Community Voices recognizes the recent changes to bus services, it is yet to be seen if these measures improve the cost / travel times in the City.
