Lindy Collins - Townsville Greens

Hi I'm Lindy Collins. My family has lived in Townsville for thirty years and I have raised my two children here. As an almost local, I am concerned at the direction Townsville is going. I am running for Community Voices because this team, if elected, will give back to the people of Townsville their right to say how they want the direction of the city to go.

Just a little bit about me:

I am an

  • Artist
  • Teacher
  • Member of the North Queensland Conservation Council
  • Member of Townsville Greens

Specifically my concerns in this election are:

  • Townsville has a unique cultural and natural heritage that is rapidly being swamped by thoughtless development.
  • For Townsville to be a great place to bring up children and live a fulfilling life. we do not need V8's and the giant Chalco Alumina refinery and other destructive outcomes
  • I am a spokesperson for BURP- Better Uses For Reid Park- a community group opposed to the V8 race track going through a suburban park
  • I am also deeply concerned about the proposed heavy industry development at Cluden which will impact on people and the environment across the whole city and not just the surrounding suburbs.

As your councillor I would be a great listener and always take the concerns of people into account. I look forward to representing people across the whole city in the forthcoming amalgamated Council. As you can see from this brief account, I stand up for what I believe in and I believe in the future of this city.
