Community Voices: Community development professionals, members of the business community and the Townsville Greens have joined forces because we want the city to retain its unique character and lifestyle, which we believe, is under threat from a ‘development at all costs ‘ mentality
The current development agenda has delivered projects and proposals, which defy good sense and will cost the ratepayers of the community well into the future. There has to be a better way!
Vision Community Voices wants to give the city council back to the people so that we can become a safer, more inclusive and sustainable city.
Some Policies:- Exact minutes of council meetings to be available on the Townsville City Council website; councillors pecuniary interests listed along side
- Introduction of ‘triple bottom line' accounting for all decision making within Council: balancing the economic, social/cultural and environmental aspects of policy and development proposals.
- Attend to the core business of council which means more money spent repairing roads, drains, water and sewerage AND spend less money on subsidising developers and backing associated projects which do not have widespread community support.
- Lobby strongly at the state and federal level for more affordable housing; form partnerships with community organisations dealing with affordable housing issues.
- Continue to support and maintain the Arts, Cultural and Sporting activities.
- Promote public transport and cycling.
- Explore the idea of multi-use, purpose built emergency shelters for communities most at risk of cyclones and extreme weather events.
